Why attend virtual conferences?
Real conferences are expensive, hard to organize and people are tired of travelling all year long. Some examples may prove the power of Second Life.

How to find a place for your presentation?
First, find a place where you can set your poster up or buy a land to do it on your own.

On Second Life's inworld map, you can check which lands are currently for sale. Click on the Search button and select the Land Sales tab.

Newly created lands can be purchased on auctions.

There are also private, expandable regions that are customizable.

How to set a poster or a slideshow up?
When you have a land or a place to use for your event, first convert your slides into jpeg format. That is the easiest way to upload the whole slideshow to Second Life. Uploading one image costs 10 L$. The recently uploaded images will be stored in your Inventory/Images folder.
Click on File -> Upload an image

Go to Drexel Island (teleport here) and add the object below to your inventory (right click -> Buy). This is a poster, a dynamic slideshow. Drag this object to the place where you want to set the poster up. You can change its size and position as well by right clicking on it and choosing edit. You can change its size and position by clicking on rotation, move or stretch.

To insert your slides into the slideshow, right click on the ppt maker and choose Edit, then the Content tab.

Now open the folder of the recently uploaded images (Inventory -> Textures) in your inventory, select the images you would like to show on your slideshow and drag those to the Content tab.

It's important to remember you have to refresh script after editing your slideshow. You can do it by clicking on Tools in the upper menu bar and choosing Reset Scripts in Selection.

How to moderate a meeting or session?
You can give a presentation by typing or by using the in-voice tool. If you're using the in-voice tool, make sure noone else uses it at the same time as it would be rather disturbing. A moderator can limit those who can speak or use text chat to avoid interruptions.

How to promote your event?
You can send notecards to members of your group to let them know about your event. Just right click on your avatar and choose Groups.

Click on your group then on Info:

Use the Notices tab and click on Create New Notice


Send Notice when finished.
All the members of your group will get this message.
